What is the Wisdom of God?

📖 [Romans 11:33-36 NKJV]

33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

34 “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?”

35 “Or who has first given to Him and it shall be repaid to him?”

36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Paul had just finished wrestling with one of theology’s hardest questions: How does God’s sovereignty work with human responsibility? How can Israel reject Messiah if God promised to save them? How do election and free will fit together?

He worked through the arguments. He quoted Scripture. He reasoned carefully.

And then he stopped.

Not because he found all the answers. Because he hit the boundary of human understanding.

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!”

The Wisdom of God (Romans 11:33-36)

Wisdom is not just knowledge. It’s the perfect application of knowledge—knowing what to do, when to do it, and how to do it for the best outcome.

God’s wisdom is infinite. He never miscalculates. Never second-guesses. Never learns from mistakes because He never makes them.

He sees all variables, all consequences, all possible outcomes—and He chooses the best path every time.

But here’s the tension: God’s wisdom often looks like foolishness to us.

The cross looked like defeat. Exile looked like abandonment. Waiting looked like inaction. Suffering looked like cruelty.

But God was working—not randomly, not carelessly, but with perfect wisdom we couldn’t see at the time.

Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is admit you don’t understand—and trust the One whose wisdom is unsearchable.
