What is the Goodness of God?

Taste. Experience. Test. Try it yourself.

David wasn’t asking you to accept God’s goodness as doctrine. He was inviting you to encounter it personally.

The Goodness of God (Psalm 34:8)

Goodness means God is the source and standard of all that is right, beneficial, and flourishing. He is not merely good—He is the definition of goodness.

Everything God does flows from His good nature. His commands are for your good. His discipline is for your good. His delays, His denials, His hard providences—all good, even when they don’t feel like it.

But this requires trust. Because God’s goodness doesn’t always look like comfort. Sometimes it looks like refining fire. Sometimes it looks like wilderness. Sometimes it looks like a cross.

The Israelites grumbled in the wilderness, convinced God had abandoned them. But He was leading them to a land of milk and honey—they just couldn’t see it yet.

Joseph spent years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. But God was positioning him to save nations from famine—Joseph couldn’t see it at the time.

Jesus hung on a cross, crying out, “My God, why have You forsaken Me?” But three days later, the tomb was empty, and death was defeated.

God’s goodness doesn’t always reveal itself immediately. But it is always there.

Where in your life are you doubting God’s goodness because circumstances are hard?

Taste and see. Trust Him long enough to discover that even this is working for your good.
