Come to Me and Rest

What does it mean to truly rest? Not just sleep or take a vacation, but to experience deep soul rest? Jesus offers an invitation in Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

This isn’t a call to work harder or try to earn peace. It’s an invitation to come as you are—weary, burdened, exhausted—and receive what He freely offers. The rest Jesus gives isn’t found in our circumstances changing or our problems disappearing. It’s found in Him.

In Christ, you have already been accepted. Your standing before God doesn’t depend on your performance, your success, or your ability to hold everything together. Because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross, you can stop striving to prove yourself. The burden of earning God’s approval has been lifted. Christ carried it to the cross and declared, “It is finished.”

This means you can lay down the weight you were never meant to carry. The pressure to be perfect, the fear of failure, the exhausting cycle of trying to measure up—Jesus took all of that upon Himself. In exchange, He offers you His yoke, which is easy, and His burden, which is light.

What makes His yoke easy? Because He’s the one doing the heavy lifting. You’re not walking this journey alone, striving in your own strength. Christ in you is your hope, your strength, and your peace. When you rest in what He has already accomplished, you discover a freedom and peace that circumstances cannot touch.

Today, accept His invitation. Come to Jesus. Rest in the finished work of the cross. You are loved, accepted, and secure in Him—not because of what you do, but because of what He has done.
